Breast Cancer Awareness Month events, specials

Hockey fan? The Capitals will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night on Oct. 18, featuring an auction on limited edition Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys featuring pink ribbons and pink names and numbers. The proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Season ticket holders who have battled cancer will also be honored during an on-ice ceremony before the game.
The George Washington University Hospital will have it's annual free cancer screening event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 19. District residents can get free screenings for several cancers, including mammograms.
The US Department of Veteran's Affairs is scheduled to have it's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fair on Oct. 17, although this may change because of the government shutdown. Check back for an update as the event date nears.

Hungry for something green? has pink salad bowls this month, and $2 from every Pink Goddess Salad (chicken, onions, black beans, avocados and more) will go to to the Pink Pony Fund of the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation.
