The USFDA has issued a warning to the public from consuming a particular form of vitamin B dietary supplement which it suspects contain harmful anabolic steroids methasterone, a controlled substance, and dimethazine. Both the substance is not mentioned in the content labels and should not be present in the said supplement.
Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity First B-50, is a B Complex supplement which has been subject to a FDA investigation after it received 24 adverse incidents of adverse effects which included fatigue, muscle cramps, myalgia, abnormal liver and cholesterol levels in different function tests. The supplement has also been indicted to cause unusual hair growth and dysmenorrheal symptoms in women. Males have also reported a loss of libido and impotence.
FDA has issued warnings to different Health Care professional to enquire from their patients about their dietary supplements if they exhibit any symptoms associated with the use of steroid like substances.
According to Howard Sklamberg, Director of the Office of Compliance in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, "Products marketed as a vitamin but which contain undisclosed steroids pose a real danger to consumers and are illegal. The FDA is committed to ensuring that products marketed as vitamins and dietary supplements do not pose harm to consumers."
Steroids have been known to be a double edged knife which often causes irreparable damage to major organs like Kidneys and Liver. They are also known to precipitate blood clots, including pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.
The USFDA has advised consumers who are using Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity First B-50 and experiencing any of the adverse symptoms mention above to immediately consult their health care professional and report their experience to the FDA.
